Last fall Bobby Davidson approached me with information that 
Mike Ranta was planning to paddle from Rocky Mountain House to Montreal. He would be paddling alone accompanied by only his dog. Mike wanted to complete the paddle as a personal challenge, but also to pay tribute to Atikokan, and to support the Atikokan Youth Initiatives. So began several months of planning, meetings and excitement.
Mike plans to leave Rocky Mountain House around the first of May, and we will be tracking his progress using a spot locator and his videos. We encourage any former Atikokan residents that may be along his route to consider planning an event for when he passes through your town, or just going to the water to cheer him along his way. Please pass the information about this paddle to your friends and contacts, and please follow Mike
throughout the summer to support him in completing his quest safely, and seeing how much he can fundraise for the teens of Atikokan.

Atikokan Youth Initiatives is a charitable organization, and as such charitable receipts will be issued for all donations received during this trip.
